The answer is clearly no! Haunted houses are often compared to escape rooms but they are completely different.
In, escape rooms, with a few exceptions, there are no live actors. The receptionist (game master) lets the guests into the room, from which they have to escape by solving various tricky tasks. If help is needed, the game master usually comes to the rescue. This can happen via phone, walkie-talkie, etc. The mission is to solve the tasks and escape within a given time. In most places, this means one hour, but sometimes more.
In contrast, classic haunted houses have live actors dressed in various scary costumes, with makeup or masks, who scare the visitors as they move through different horror-themed rooms in the haunted house maze. A large area is needed for implementation, in our case, this is 400 square meters.
However, Nightmare in Budapest is much more than a classic haunted house, where visitors can experience a unique interactive horror tour. Our horror characters won't just use jumpscares but also engage in conversation with the “victims,” making them part of the story. In the 2-5 minute horror scenes, you can move from one room to another by solving simple but terrifying tasks. It can also be described as a theater up close and personal!
When we talk about horror characters, we are not talking about 1-2 actors, but even 8-10 characters appearing on the tour.
A program lasts on average half an hour. This depends on the group, how fast they are, and how much they are into the game, but the playing time is between 25-35 minutes.
If you love horror, adrenaline, and interaction, you can get all these on the interactive horror tour at Nightmare in Budapest!
